Community, Conservation and Responsible Angling
RASSPL WP Bronzies NPC is a community-based nonprofit organisation that uses responsible recreational angling to support marine conservation, community outreach, research collaboration, education and inclusive development.
Our purpose extends well beyond competition. Community service, conservation, responsible fishing practices, skills sharing and the protection of marine resources are central to what we do.

Our Mission
Our mission is to strengthen communities and protect marine resources through community outreach, responsible recreational angling, conservation, research collaboration, education and inclusive development.
We create practical opportunities for people to contribute through charitable fundraising, responsible-angling education, conservation data collection, skills sharing and coastal stewardship.
RASSPL WP Bronzies NPC is an amateur, community-based organisation. It is not a professional or semi-professional sports organisation, a national sports governing body or an international tournament operator.
What We Do
We use our network, organised activities and supporters to raise funds and provide practical assistance to charitable and community organisations. Our goal is to turn participation in recreational angling into measurable support for people and communities in need.
We promote responsible catch-and-release practices, careful fish handling, accurate species identification and the responsible recording of catch information. These activities support greater awareness of marine resources and responsible recreational use of the coastline.
Catch records, species information, measurements, tagging information and release data can contribute to broader conservation and research initiatives. WP Bronzies participates within the broader RASSPL angling structure, whose conservation work has included collaboration with the Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science at Rhodes University.
We promote skills sharing, mentoring, responsible participation and opportunities for people with different levels of experience to take part in community and conservation activities.
Our Community Impact
Our members, supporters and volunteers turn organised recreational angling into practical community support, youth skills development and conservation education.

WP Bronzies continues to explore community, youth-development, conservation and educational initiatives that are appropriate to the organisation’s resources and partnerships.
A separate initiative involving Waenhuiskrans School was announced as a planned future project.
PlannedSupport associated with Rising Eagles Children’s Home demonstrates the broader direction of this community work, distinct from initiatives that remain proposed or under consideration.
Responsible Angling and Conservation
WP Bronzies competitions are run under a strict 100% catch-and-release format, with fish measured, recorded and handled only for the purpose of returning them safely to the water.
Responsible angling requires more than releasing a fish: it requires careful handling, accurate species identification, accurate measurement, useful catch-data recording, and a willingness to support scientific research through tagging and sampling participation where appropriately managed by researchers.
Competition data can help build a clearer picture of species distribution, fish health, movement and the effects of recreational and competitive shore angling. Tagging and other carefully managed research activities can further improve understanding of migration, breeding behaviour and the long-term health of shoreline species.
WP Bronzies also promotes conservation awareness among anglers and responsible use of beaches and coastal environments, so that competitive angling contributes positively to the protection of the marine resources on which it depends.
